Dubai plans to build the largest airport in the world, featuring 400 terminal gates.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, said on Sunday that his government has authorised the $34.85 billion plans for the new passenger terminals at AI Maktoum International Airport on X, formerly Twitter.

According to Sheikh Mohammed, the Al Maktoum International Airport would be the biggest in the world, able to accommodate up to 260 million passengers.

Compared to the current Dubai International Airport, it will be five times larger. He also mentioned that all of Dubai International Airport’s operations will be moved to Al Maktoum throughout the next ten years. There will be 400 terminal gates at the airport, which has five parallel runways.

“New aviation technologies will be employed in the aviation sector for the first time,” the leader declared.

As Dubai builds a whole metropolis centred around the airport in Dubai South, he continued, “Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global centre.”

“There will be a million individuals who need homes. The top businesses in the aviation and logistics industries worldwide will be based there. In order to ensure steady and ongoing growth for our children and their descendants in turn, we are creating a new initiative for future generations,” he wrote on social media.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum, chairman of Dubai state-owned airline Emirates, announced that the airport will serve as the new hub for all other airline partners that connect Dubai with the rest of the globe, including budget carrier Flydubai and leading carrier Emirates.
