Additionally, India has emphasized the need to make the system allowing eligible H-1B visa renewals within the US a permanent fixture rather than a pilot program, which currently necessitates applicants to return to their home country.

During the forum co-chaired by US Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, India expressed concerns over the challenges faced by domestic businesses in obtaining timely visas for the US. The official statement issued on Saturday highlighted India’s call for an expedited visa processing system and emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral economic cooperation.

Regarding H-1B visa renewals, an official mentioned that the stamping process has commenced on a pilot basis in the US, and India has urged the US to make it a permanent arrangement, including provisions for family members. The goal is to create a more efficient and predictable system for professionals working in the US under the H-1B program.

Furthermore, India has flagged its interest in obtaining treaty status for E1 and E2 visas for traders and investors. The program, designed for a maximum of 20,000 renewals, focuses solely on principal H-1B visa holders, excluding dependents from its scope. This initiative aims to efficiently manage the renewal process and address technical and operational challenges associated with including other visa categories.

As India continues to engage with the US on these visa-related matters, the hope is to foster smoother people-to-people exchanges, contributing positively to both nations’ economies. The outcome of these discussions will be closely watched, given the significance of skilled professionals, students, investors, and business visitors in enhancing bilateral economic ties.”

In the recent 14th India-US Trade Policy Forum held in New Delhi on Friday, India has formally requested the United States to streamline visa procedures for its traders and investors.
