After a one-month suspension due to diplomatic tensions between the two countries, India has announced the resumption of visa services for Canadians. The decision comes following a thorough security review and in response to certain recent measures taken by the Canadian government.<\/span><\/p>\n

Effective from October 26, 2023, the Indian High Commission in Canada will once again provide visa services for the following categories:<\/span><\/p>\n

(a) Entry visa<\/span><\/p>\n

(b) Business visa<\/span><\/p>\n

(c) Medical visa<\/span><\/p>\n

(d) Conference visa<\/span><\/p>\n

The Indian High Commission also confirmed that emergency situations will continue to be addressed by the High Commission and the Consulates General, as they have been doing so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

This move follows India’s suspension of visa services for Canadian nationals<\/strong><\/a> on September 21, which had been prompted by heightened diplomatic tensions. The tensions had escalated after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June of the same year. Subsequently, both countries engaged in a tit-for-tat expulsion of diplomats, further straining their relations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, shed light on the decision to halt visa issuance in Canada, citing the “difficult phase” in the bilateral relationship. He stated, “Some weeks ago, we stopped issuing visas in Canada because it was no longer safe for our diplomats to go to work to issue visas. So their safety and security was the primary reason we had to temporarily stop the issue of visas.” Jaishankar also expressed India’s intention to resume visa services for Canadians<\/strong><\/a> “very soon” if progress is made in ensuring the safety of its diplomats in Canada.”<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
