A deal that will let travel between Russia and India without a visa is almost complete. PTI reports that discussions to finalise the terms of this bilateral agreement will start in June. Russia now has a tourist exchange programme that grants nationals of China and Iran admission without the need for a visa.
Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Russian Economic Development Ministry, Nikita Kondratyev, stated: “As they prepare to introduce visa-free group tourist exchanges, Russia and India are expected to deepen their tourism links. June marks the start of the two countries’ first round of negotiations, with the goal of concluding a bilateral agreement by the end of the year.” The minister made it clear that Russia wants to replicate India’s success with this scheme. Commencing on August 1, 2023, the visa-free exchanges between China and Iran have shown to be quite prosperous.
Visa-free travel: what is it?
Visa-free travel allows you to enter a nation using your passport alone to pass customs instead of requiring a visa in advance. This simplifies travel and does away with the trouble and expense of getting a visa. 62 nations currently grant visa-free entry to holders of Indian passports, simplifying and facilitating travel. For Indian tourists, this Russian initiative could greatly improve travel convenience.
